Teaching

I am not a teacher, but an awakener.”
~ Robert Frost

Welcome to my little corner about “teaching”…

My influences in teaching are vast and I may not remember all the names or theories…but some if I have to name a “theory” that would be: “holistic education”, which comes from social pedagogy…

In this page, I will be posting my own insights and learning as a teacher and a learner (we all are both, some of us more technical than others, that is all)

I am currently studying a few things: horticulture and adult education…in the past, I have studied pedagogy (and graduated as a psycho-pedagogist specialized in children with learning difficulties and emotional problems), ICT teaching (teaching with the use of Information and Communication Technologies) and Online Instruction…

These days, I am more interested in sharing and facilitating awakening than “teaching”: my approach is: “heads, hearts and hands” as in Permaculture and the many approaches used by social pedagogy and holistic education. I am also interested in new models, like UDL, that explore ways to make education truly inclusive, fun and self-directed…

In any case, no education or learning can happen if they are not, as Freire used to say “deeply transformative”…

My philosophy of education may be summarized in two quotes: one is the one you found at the beginning of this page, and the other one is this brilliant quote by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry:

Quand tu veux construire un bateau, ne commence pas par rassembler du bois, couper des planches et distribuer du travail, mais reveille au sein des hommes le desir de la mer grande et large.

(If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people together to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea).”

That, for me, is the only way to learn…and teach!

You can explore my summaries of what I have learned and what resources stuck longer (or deeper) with me from my different experiences as a teacher-learner by clicking in the different sub-divisions of this “sub-page” (“Teaching”)…here there is a (incomplete) list of some of the summaries I’ll be posting:
