Food Preservation Workshops!

“Food preservation has been used for centuries by all cultures.

Before supermarkets and big food processing systems, people preserved the harvest using cold storage, drying, oil, salt, sugar, vinegar and fermentation.

Come and join us for these fun and practical workshops and learn how you too can preserve food and avoid waste.”

Workshops:

July 25: Intro to food Fermentation: equipment, methods and troubleshooting. Plus: take home two delicious jars you’ll be creating with your own hands!

August 22: Picking and more fermenting!

August 29: Introduction to canning and dehydrating: marmalades/jams and plain fruits

September 12: Canning sauces

Presented by: Surrey/White Rock Food Action Coalition and supported by Vancity

Facilitator: Silvia Di Blasio (Local Food Sovereignty and Permaculture Activist)

Where: South Surrey Recreation and Arts Centre: 14601 20 Ave, Surrey, BC

Time: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM (Please bring your bagged lunch)

Registration includes: light snacks and beverages, all ingredients and supplies, recipes, tips and resources and take home jars with preserved food!!!

Sources Women’s  Centre located at: 15318 20 Ave, Surrey, BC V4A 2A3. They are open M-F 9 am to 2:30 pm and you need to contact Lynn or Wendy

Payments accept cash, cheque or credit card or you can pay over the phone. For phone payments Wendy will be available only from next Tuesday, July 13 to Friday July 17 at 604-541-4822.
