Free Introduction to Permaculture and next part time PDC

As mentioned in my last post, I will be sharing information about Permaculture training happening in my region (Western Canada) and other areas of Canada and US.

Here there is more in depth information about both the upcoming full day free intro (highly recommended!) and the next part-time PDC in the Sunshine Coast region of BC (easily accessible from Vancouver and Lower Mainland by both carpooling, public transportation or bike)

Join a group of conscious learners in a free introduction to permaculture day in the Heart Gardens, Gumboot Gardens, Elphinstone Rainforest and Mandala Beach of Roberts Creek. Pilgrimage in carpools to the Sunshine Coast, a short ferry ride from Vancouver, to experience a unique and creative introduction to the permaculture paradigm.

together we will :

talk about the ethos, principles,

toolkit and metastructure of permaculture,

tour the gardens,

meet some of the food-medicine plants of the Coastal First Peoples,

share a potluck meal,

watch some permaculture movies,

walk in the rainforest,

meet by the ocean,

and have an inspiring day learning and growing with nature.

The day will run on August 25

from 11 am – 5:30 pm, aligning with the bus linked to the 9:40 am ferry from Horseshoe Bay and the 6:50 pm ferry returning to Vancouver. I will help to co-ordinate a carpool as well.

There is a limited space so please RSVP to confirm your attendance to delvin@cosm.org.

Since its a free course, i am trusting that if you ask for a space you will make a commitment to following through and attending the full day 🙂 The summer weather varies, please come dressed to be outside for short periods regardless of weather (dress warm and with rainproof gear or umbrella if you are worried about rain).

Looking forward to a day of wonderful people connecting and sharing about how to be more conscious planetary citizens.

I am joyed to announce my sixteenth Permaculture Design Certification Course. This low cost, ultra flexible program meets one day a month for 14 months. There is a sunday and a monday course which are staggered by one month that people can bounce between for ease of flow. The program is modular and there is no time limit to complete the certificate. Missed classes can be done at no extra cost with any of my other classes. By jumping between classes it is possible to do all the units in the Vancouver Area or all the units on the Sunshine Coast.

The program has been developed over the course of two Diplomas and a Masters Degree in Permaculture Education and continually upgraded over the 12 years it has been offered. Together we travel to many different permaculture farms, gardens and forest locations while sharing in a uniquely creative learning journey. The year long focus project is a map and design for where you live or an area of your choice. I am a registered teacher and offer legit and formal certificates through Permaculture Institute USA and Permaculture Research Institute.

Permaculture Design Certification Course

Gather together with conscious and creative people to do a unique, low-cost, flexibly scheduled Permaculture Design Course. Meeting once a month over fourteen months, the class caters anyone who wants to learn permaculture but cannot afford the cost or intensive time commitment of other courses including lower-income families, students, youth and people for who are called permaculture but have been struggling to find a course that fits their life.

Join this adventure in learning as it journeys to eco-locations like the Heart Gardens, Forest Atrium, Rolling Earth, Country Haven, Backyard Bounty, Compost Education Center, Loutet Farm, UBC Farm, Sole Food, Old Growth Forest sites and the properties of students who want to host. The Sunday course will meet most of the time on the Sunshine Coast, the Monday course will meet much more often in Greater Vancouver. By jumping between classes it is possible to do the entire class in the Vancouver area or the entire class on the Sunshine Coast.

The course is very flexible with busy lives and organized modularly. If you miss a class you can jump in on the the same module in a different class at no extra cost. We meet one day a month from November or December 2014 and run to February or March 2015. I will run a Sunday and a Monday class staggered by one month so if you miss a day you have a chance to do the same module with the other group. This also opens the option for those from further afield to do two days in a row every second month. There is no time limit to complete the course and if you miss any classes you can do them in the future with other groups at no extra cost.

A small ring of learners will gather with plants and animals, garden and farms to learn about how nature designs itself and how we can become sustainable designers ourselves. Together we will learn how to map and design our land and our lives, plan for emergency, grow organic food in all four seasons and work to build a more sustainable future. The certification granted upon completion of the course will empower participants as  permaculture designers, consultants and beginner teachers able to use the word permaculture legally in their practice, business or project. This sustainability education eco-training certificate is a practical path for greening your life, resume and portfolio.

Course Topics include:

design methods * patterns in nature * soils and composting * water * trees * animals * design for cool , tropical and arid climates * social permaculture * native food and medicine plants of the Coastal First Peoples and much much more. We have worksheets, permaculture design gaming tools, an online social networking and educational support platform, as well as hundreds of gardens as our living classroom.

The course is $555.
